It’s been about two months, maybe a bit more, since I decided to buy an RV and travel full-time to pickleball destinations. I have always traveled a lot through my life, and much more so since starting my travel agency in 2021. However, I haven’t traveled so much domestically as I have internationally, so I went ahead and bought a fifth wheel camper, which I called the Pickleball Camper because I’ll be traveling to places that have pickleball with it.
I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner!
This past two months has been remarkable in that every day I find new ways that this type of life is better than the last. For instance, when I opened up all the windows today, I had the most amazing cool breeze that ran through the camper, reflecting the roughly 10-mile-an-hour winds that we had here in Orlando, where I’m currently at. And abundant sun is available in my camper because I have quite a few windows, and the door turns into a full-size screen door as well, so it’s kind of like having an apartment with the ultimate breeze and the ultimate lighting, enhanced by the fact that the windows are the type that reflect the light, and so people outside really can’t see in, and it also helps keep the camper cooler since it reflects the sun’s rays.
But I detract.
This experience has been amazing, though it has had a few trials and tribulations. I haven’t had any mentors for this type of life, so I’m figuring things out as I go, and I found out quite early on that this particular camper will use up both propane tanks even though the valve says that it’s pointed to only one, and that occurred on the coldest week of the year, in which Florida had lows down to 18 or 20 degrees, and so I had several nights when I thought it would have heat, but in fact it was very cold, even with a few blankets that I had.
Since then, it has become warmer, and I have generally enjoyed keeping the windows open at night when the temperature has been between, let’s say, 48 and 60 degrees. When it has gotten to be 65 or so, then I have turned on the air conditioner, but I’m thrilled that even though I have two air conditioners, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, the bedroom air conditioner has cooled the hottest days by itself, and it’s been up to 90 or so.
Anyway, getting back to the pickleball, I have already visited many pickleball destinations on my way from Indiana, where I bought the camper, to Florida, and it’s so nice to be able to always have my own bed as I travel. The camper bed.
And of course, when I go to these RV resorts that have pickleball, everybody’s in such a great mood down at the pickleball courts because they are living life that many enjoy, and they’re also very close to the pickleball courts. And so my plan going forward is to spend some more time in Florida and see many of the top pickleball destinations here, and then I will make my way up the East Coast, I believe, and eventually make it back to South Dakota in the summer. And from there, I’m not sure, but I will definitely be seeing a lot of pickleball along the way, and perhaps hopefully you as well if you are along the way.
I hope you will let me know. I will be traveling to most states, I think, within the next nine months or so, with probably several months of those being in Florida since it’s such a great pickleball spot.
In any case, I hope to see you along the trail, and if you see the Pickleball Camper, I hope you will say hi, and perhaps we can set up some pickleball.
